BFL teams meet in Belmopan
Good evening I’m James Adderly and you’re locked in to this latest dish of Sports Monday. For those who couldn’t wait for the return of BFL regular season football play scheduled for November fourth, yesterday’s observance of FIFA Fair Play Day at Belmopan provided some relief with a football quadrangular that featured defending champions Sagitun, Griga Tropical, Juventus of Orange Walk and of course the host team Bandits Hardware.
We open to the monster match up between archrival Sagitun of Independence and Dangriga’s Griga Tropical. Griga is down 1-zip and they’ll never recover as Sagitun keeps up the pressure for the 1-ip big “W”.
So we go to the other first round match up featuring the host team Bandits Hardware facing Juventus of Orange Walk. And it’s the Belmopan team attacking off this corner kick and it’s indeed a miraculous save by the O.W. defensive on this wicked header.
The miscue by Locho Coye almost cost the Bandits, but Juventus simply can’t take advantage in two tries. It’s another near miss for Orange Walk on this push through, but the scoreboard remains still a Juventus 1-zip lead. We didn’t capture the goal that scored and at the half it still Juventus in the lead.
In second half the Bandits try to get something working off the spot kick, but come up empty. Is this a penalty kick? You decide because the Belmopan team certainly thinks so, they feel they’ve been robbed.
Juventus almost extends the lead with floater, but the crossbar made the rejection for Belmopan. This header might have been the closest the Bandits get to equalizing as the O.W. keeper misplays but survives. However, this right foot punch tangles in the net to give O.W. a 2-zip victory and would put them into the playoffs against Sagitun.
Unfortunately for Juventus, that’s where the winning ended. They got beat 4-1 by Sagitun, who take the Hurricane Relief quadrangular title at Capital City and we say congratulations.
In the meantime, we have to remind you that BFL football does return on November fourth. Currently in Belize City, there is the High School Volleyball Tournament in both male and female divisions. They are into the playoffs right now and are being house at SJC since no word as to when the City Centre will we ready.
