San Pedro corpse believed to be Buddy Smith

Meanwhile, police strongly suspect that a body found on October sixth near San Pedro, may be that of American Buddy Smith. Smith was one of five crew members who went missing at sea after the catamaran they were traveling in got caught in Hurricane Keith and overturned. Because of the advanced state of decomposition, however, police have been unable to positively identify the corpse. Following Keith, Smith’s wife Kay was found floating in the waters near Lighthouse Reef. A Belizean crewmember, Henry Bahh, was also found semi-conscious and has since recovered. Still unaccounted for are Belizeans Sergio Alamilla and Oswaldo Moz. San Pedro police say so far they do not know exactly what happened aboard the vessel and are presently looking for Bahh, who is believed to be back on the island, to interview him. Reports are that the five crewmembers were taking the chartered catamaran to the southern part of the island to anchor it safely from the storm. The Smiths were residents of Ambergris Caye.
