Grace offers food for hurricane victims

Story Picture
Until Belizean farmers get back to full production, much of the food consumed by hurricane victims will come out of tins. Today one of the nation’s biggest food importers made sure that those working to rebuild would not have to worry about where their next meal will come from.

Some of those suffering from the ravages of hurricane Keith will have a little more to eat tonight; thanks to a twenty thousand dollar donation from Grace Kennedy Belize Limited. General Manager Gilroy Graham made the donation this morning to the Belize Red Cross Society.

“Our head office in Jamaica has had a similar experience to what Belize has had in terms of the destruction that has been caused by a hurricane. They can empathize with what the people of Belize, particularly the victims of hurricane Keith are going through. Just to demonstrate that we really care, our head office had decided to give something, just a small token to the people of Belize to show that they care and they really appreciate the support they have been given over the years.”

The majority of the donated items are produced in Jamaica by Grace; Vienna sausages, corned beef and evaporated milk. Some of the other products are distributed by the company such as Maseca corn flour and Tetley teas.

“I understand that some of our competitors have given contributions and I would like to see some of the other companies in Belize to follow suit. I believe we should give back something from whence it came.”

The Belize Red Cross Society will be responsible for distributing the food supplies to those who need them. Ann-Marie Williams For News Five.

Most of the food supplies donated by Grace will be sent to Caye Caulker and San Pedro.
