UK and SSB contribute to Keith relief
In news of hurricane relief a number of new donors have come forward to offer emergency aid in the wake of Hurricane Keith. On October tenth, Britain’s Department for International Development announced a donation of one hundred thousand pounds, which is just under three hundred thousand Belize Dollars. The money will be administered by the International Red Cross to provide supplies for communities damaged by the storm. DFID has also given a similar amount to PAHO to help that body improve affected areas’ water and food quality, as well as to restock health centres. The UK’s financial assistance is an addition to emergency help provided by personnel from BATSUB and the Royal Navy. Local resources have also been contributing significantly to the relief effort. Today the Social Security Board announced a contribution of two hundred thousand dollars, which will be given to NEMO.
