City Council will pick up debris

Water is not the only thing Hurricane Keith left in its path. The sanitation workers at the Belize City Council have been picking up debris and fallen trees throughout the city. Assistant chief sanitation officer Calvin Neal says the Council is working hard to put the city back together.

“People with fallen trees can get it cut up or if they put it on the street, we will pick it up when we go in the division on the southside. If they need some assistance to cut it up, we have a crew with chainsaws and they can just send in their address and we’ll go and deal with it, and pick it up.”

“Right now we are dealing with the southside specifically. We have the other company, SEL that is dealing with the northside. But we still assist in case anybody from northside call in. We try to help them also, it’s a joint effort between the north and southside.”

Neal is appealing to the public to call the council at 73073 if they need assistance to dispose of their debris. They can also just put it out in front of their yards. Collection time is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon.
