Living Hope Preparatory School benefits from Kiwanis Day
We have not heard much from them of late but the Kiwanis Club of Belize Central resurfaced early this year and they are wasting no time. The branch of the organization in Belize will join Kiwanis clubs all over the world in observing the second annual Kiwanis One Day this Saturday. The local beneficiary is the Living Hope Preparatory School. In keeping with the theme “One Day, One Way, One K”, the club will devote the entire day to renovating the school. We spoke to the local club president, Patricia Bennett, who told us about the planned activities.

“The Kiwanis club of Belize Central will be helping out the school New Hope Preparatory School, which meets at the lower flat of the Belize City Center and we will be involved in painting and refurbishing their school building, putting in tiles, renovating their bathroom, and quite a number of activities which will help to make the lives of the students; the pupils of the New Hope Preparatory School much better.”

“These activities are only for the Kiwanis members or the general public?”
Patricia Bennett
“No, we are partnering with the school itself, the principal and the staff at the school as well as members of the business community. We’ve asked other volunteers to come in and work along with us, the parents of those student; quite a number of people will be involved in the activity. “

“And how did you chose the New Hope school to help out this year?”
Patricia Bennett
“The director—because we do have a board of directors and the director for community development heard about the plight of the students at the New Hope Preparatory School and found out that they were really in dire need of assistance and so we thought that it would be an excellent project for us to take on and to complete quite a bit of the work in one day.”
The project is being financed with the proceeds of fundraising efforts and donations from the business community. Bennett says Kiwanis Club of Belize Central plans to continue assisting the Living Hope Preparatory School and to offer a mentoring program for the students.
