Trinidad technicians help BTL fix lines
Not all of the hurricane assistance from abroad has come in the form of money, food and clothing. In a unique display of regional solidarity, 26 technicians from Trinidad and Tobago have arrived in the country to help restore BTL’s communication lines. The 24 installers, one supervisor and a manager, all from the Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago, will be working in the Belize District, San Pedro and Caye Caulker. Emerson Spence is BTL’s external plant manager.

“We have 6 of them jointly assisting our crews in Belize to restore our faults. The guys in Caye Caulker and San Pedro are working mostly with recovering our cables because the situation out there is that we need to take our cables off the poles while BEL do their restoration. After they have completed that then we can restore the services by putting up back the cables.”

“What are or were some of the areas hardest hit in Belize City?”
Emerson Spence
“We had some cables down right in the Newtown Barrack area. We also had some cables down in the Buttonwood area and we have checked Ladyville, Lord’s Bank, Hattieville and Burrell Boom; we haven’t seen extensive damage out there. Most of the damage was concentrated in the north and south of the city.”
Spence says the working team is scheduled to be in Belize until the end of this month.
