Rivers continue to rise in north

Story Picture
Meanwhile reports continue to come in, primarily from north and central Belize, of continued hardship caused by flooding. In Orange Walk the southern approach to the Tower Hill Bridge is under at least 2 feet of water, while the eastern approach to the San Estevan Bridge is under 4 feet. The wide waters of the Rio Hondo continue to isolate Blue Creek, San Antonio, San Roman and Douglas and over 200 families have been evacuated from their homes. Similar flooding has occurred in Crooked Tree, Maskall, Santa Marta, Guinea Grass, Carmelita, Indian Church, Fireburn and other villages in the Orange Walk and Belize Districts. New rains over the weekend also promise to add to flooding conditions on the Macal, Mopan and Belize Rivers.

Reports from Ladyville indicate that while the Belize River has overflowed its traditional banks at many points, the Northern Highway has still not been breached and remains passable, provided you don’t drop into a bottomless pothole. In the city the situation is worst in the Belama area, where waterlogged residents still cannot get in or out by car as some streets remain covered by over 3 feet of water.
