Teachers Working Through the COVID-19 Crisis
While the occasion as not celebrated in grand fashion, Senator Elena Smith took time to underscore and express gratitude to teachers for using their own resources to work with their students virtually at this time of the pandemic.
Senator Elena Smith, National President, B.N.T.U.
“I want to say to them thank you because despite the fact that they too are going through their own struggles right now with this pandemic, they are still as usual using their own resources to provide for their students. They have to use their own internet services; everything to ensure that their students are still working and getting some sort of work to do during this time. So thank you and I trust that they are all safe and healthy. And I trust that they will find some time today to celebrate, even if it is just for an hour. Even if it is just three of them together or their neighbours, who are also teachers, find some time to celebrate because it is a day that they deserve to celebrate.”
According to Smith, the feedback has been good in terms of the online courses, but those teachers who live in rural areas have not been able to access internet services to do their online sessions. That is being ironed out.
