Owners get keys to new townhouses
The government’s effort to see ten thousand new homes built in 5 years took another small step forward today. Two Belizeans moved into townhouses that the Minister of Housing says are not only secure and economically priced, but also pretty to look at.
Dickie Bradley, Minister of Housing
“We are opening two houses on Welch Street in the Queen Square Division. These houses are cement upstairs and downstairs. The upstairs are 2 bedrooms with bathroom facilities. And in one case there is a patio. There is a stairway that leads from the upstairs to the downstairs. There is no outside stairs, so there is an additional security feature. Downstairs you have your parlor and your dining room and these houses cost in the vicinity of 36 to $38,000. The contractor is Elvis Stevens and you see he has done a beautiful job with the stuccoing on the front of the house. In fact the whole outside of the house which has given it an additional beauty feature. So that what is happening here in Queen Square and the southside is that little by little there is not only improvement but there is beautification in regard to the type of houses that are being built through the housing department at affordable prices.”
The Housing Department is currently designing a new 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. Bradley says that his ministry has built three thousand houses so far.
