Salvadoran Jailed for Illegal Entry
Jose Sosa, a Salvadoran construction worker was nabbed in Belize City this morning and when he failed to present documentation that he entered the country legally, he was escorted to the Magistrate’s Court. That’s where Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson read him a charge of Failure to Produce a Visitor’s Permit, and found guilty. Sosa was fined one thousand dollars plus five dollars cost of court, to be paid immediately. He could not pay the fine and Immigration Officers transported him to the Hattieville Prison to serve six months imprisonment, which was the penalty for not paying the fine.
