Brodies hit hard by thieves

Story Picture
Somewhere in the nation of Belize tonight there’s at least one person watching this newscast with a glass of Johnny Walker in one hand and a bottle of Chivas in the other. And if the police have their way, this burglar with a fondness for Scotch whiskey, will soon be toasting his luck in a jail cell at Hattieville. According to Curtis Musa of James Brodie and Company, their downtown store was hit hard last night by a set of thieves with expensive tastes.

Curtis M. Musa, Director, James Brodie and Co. Ltd.

“This morning when we came in we discovered that they had broken into the building from through the roof. We discovered they had stolen a variety of liquors, namely Black Label Whiskey, Chivas Regal Whiskey, a variety of watches, Seiko watches, Quartz, knives, cutting knives, some very expensive stainless steel cutting knives. They also stole Florsheim shoes, a variety of Florsheim shoes, a lot of dress pants, shirts. They got away with a variety of products.”

Jose Sanchez, Reporting

Though Brodies closes for business at 7:30, its cleaning crew continues to work until 10:00. So after that, presumably during the heavy rains, the thieves entered the store through the building’s zinc roof. Musa believes there is a connection between this incident and another burglary that occurred almost a month ago. On that occasion, the robbers also came in during rain, and broke in through the roof–only a few feet away from the spot used last night.

Curtis M. Musa

“Based on our observation it seems that it’s the same set of people that came through the roof this time again. Cause if you notice they came through the area that was secured and they cut through the wire meshing there. Now they realize to make it easier that they would just come through this area that is open. So we are suspecting it’s the same set of people doing it again.”

Jose Sanchez

“How do you suppose they knew where to enter the roof?”

Curtis M. Musa

“I suspect it’s an inside job. We probably have some employees in here working with these people outside. The people working in here know where the weak points are.”

Jose Sanchez

“Do you have security for Brodies?”

Curtis M. Musa

“Yes we have a watchman that patrols at night but apparently they didn’t see anything. They have K.B.H. that also patrols and according to them, they didn’t see anything.”

Musa believes the thieves may have climbed onto Brodies from the neighbouring Albert Cattouse or Wischenka buildings.
