Olympic Games open in Sydney
If you managed to either stay up very late last night or woke up very early this morning, you would have seen the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games, live from Sydney, Australia. The dramatic spectacle included the march of the world’s greatest athletes, including a couple from Belize. The commentary was provided by the Caribbean Broadcasting Union.

“Belize the Caribbean nation on the Central American section of the continent. Small Belizean team. I’m sure that while all Belizeans will pay close attention to these athletes, they will also recall fondly that Marion Jones of the U.S. has Belizean ties. But the athletes you saw just now are the ones carrying the Belize flag high and we’ll keep a watch on them.”
The two Belizean athletes in the parade are Emma Wade and Jason Jones. we also caught a flash of official Sonny Meighan, as well as Olympic attaché Nadine Vernon, who now resides in Australia with her husband Tony O’Ferrall. Tonight’s Olympic coverage on Channel Five begins at 7:30 with Caribbean highlights and continues at 10:00 with boxing, weightlifting, gymnastics, judo, football, cycling and swimming.
