B.T.I.A. Membership is Divided on P.G.I.A. Reopening
Earlier this week, the Belize Tourism Industry Association commenced a polling exercise among its members to determine their position regarding the reopening of the Philip Goldson International Airport. The survey also required participants to share their views on the medical safeguards that should be put in place once the P.G.I.A. is reopened to reduce the spread of COVID-19 from arrivals. The initial July first date saw a fifty percent split among members who participated. Among the fifty percent in favour of a later reopening date, preferred dates ranged from August to December, while forty-six percent indicated that Belize’s medical preparedness is more important than setting a random date for reopening. In a nutshell, the B.T.I.A.’s membership is divided on the issue of the P.G.I.A. Since the matter is complicated and knowledge on the matter is limited, the association will refrain from lobbying for a specific reopening date.
