Over 100 firearms collected in “Cash For Guns”

Story Picture
The Cash for Guns scheme has entered its second and final week. And it seems that as long as the business community can find the money, the guns keep coming in.

Lascelle Arnold, Chairman, Cash For Guns

“For half day Saturday we collected 7. Today we collected 17 guns. We’ll be stepping up tomorrow, going to the prison for half day tomorrow, after that we leave to go to Dangriga on Wednesday. At the radio station in Dangriga, we’ll be collecting guns for money. So Dangriga, you’ll look out for us, we’ll be there from 8:00 in the morning until about 4:00 in the afternoon.”

Jose Sanchez

“How many guns have you collected so far?”

Lascelle Arnold

“Right now, we’ve gotten over 100 guns already. And concerning the guns, I want to tell the public we stop taking in shot guns, because a lot of people are bringing in their shot guns, and we are targeting handguns and machine guns. Today we collected a machine gun.”

The organizers of the programme are appealing to the public for financial support. Thus far the following companies have contributed money to the project: James Brodies and Company, Augusto Quan, Barrow and Williams, Appliance World, Bank of Nova Scotia, Southside Mini Mart, Glenn D. Godfrey and Company, Atlantic Insurance, G.A. Roe and Sons, Belize Diesel and Equipment Company, Saint John’s College, Syscomp, Macmillan Brothers, Mikado’s Textile Palace and Young’s Law Firm.
