New Orleans Belizeans helps AIDS centre

Story Picture
We all know that information is vital for the fight against Aids. Today one organization that has been addressing the problem received a much-needed donation to help educate the public about the deadly disease and what can be done to save lives. The Alliance Against Aids was given twelve thousand dollars to help establish a resource centre at its King’s Park headquarters. The money was donated by the Belizean Association of Louisiana after the association’s leaders read about AAA on the internet. According to Alliance chairperson Carolyn Williams, the gift could not have come at a better time.

Carolyn Williams, Chairperson, Alliance Against Aids

“This resource centre is something that Common Ground really needed in terms of the services that they provide to the public. People will now be able to come in to Common Ground and to use whatever resources are available. So we know exactly what we have and if somebody comes in and there is a volunteer working at the front desk and they know well this is what we are looking for and we’ll have things right on hand. So it will make it a lot easier to for the members here at Common Ground and also for people coming in who would like to take advantage or use resources here at Common Ground.”

“How did Common Ground to get its information out in the past?”

Carolyn Williams

“Information would go out in terms of flyers, in terms of programmes, like World AIDS Day. Sometimes Rodel would be on the radio invited by different organisations, or by the radio stations especially around World AIDS Day. But now we will have all of that available here and people wouldn’t have to be referred back somewhere else and in terms of materials, printed materials especially.”

If you would like to assist the Alliance Against Aids resource centre you can contact Rodel Perrera at telephone number 36493.
