Footballers charged in barroom brawl
Two well-known football players did not spend the past weekend kicking ball, but were instead locked down at the Orange Walk Police Station. On Saturday, Norman “Tilliman” Nunez and Charlie Slusher were arrested following a fight, which erupted outside of a nightclub. Today, Linda Nunez, mother of Norman Nunez, told News Five that her son was beaten severely by police officer Eli Salazar. Nunez says her son was along with Charlie Slusher and a friend known as “Buttah” at a club, when “Buttah” went outside and apparently got into an argument with someone. Nunez says that was when her son and Slusher went outside to find out what the commotion was about…and that’s when they were beaten.

“Charlie Slusher came out and asked what was the matter and Salazar just pushed Mr. Slusher into the vehicle. Someone went in and called Tilliman, and Tilliman came out to the vehicle and asked Slusher what took place? Mr. Salazar just begins to beat Tilliman, took the gun and whop him by his head–that’s what Tilliman told me. They went to the police station, handcuffed them and five policemen went inside the cell and beat them. He said he hollered “You will kill me. You will kill me.” He said, “Ma it look as if they even wanted to break my foot.”

Nunez says she tried to see her son but was told no one could see the men. She says it was not until she got help from Minister Johnny Briceno that she was able to see both her son and Slusher.

“So I wait and while I was waiting, I went to the back and hollered for my son and he said, “Ma please take me to the hospital because I am properly beaten.” I went back to the police and I told him that my son needs medical attention. He told me he can’t do anything because Salazar left strict orders that no one is to see Tilliman and Charlie Slusher.”
“When they brought him, he was under blood properly beaten. He and Slusher were handcuffed together, so they took them to the hospital.”
When News Five contacted the Orange Walk Police Station, we were told that Salazar is on sick leave after he received a wound over the eye by one of the men. We were also notified that the police could not provide us with any other information about the incident, as the officer in charge was out of office. However, News Five was told that both Nunez and Slusher were charged with a series of offenses that include assault, wounding, resisting arrest and using threatening words against a police officer. This morning, Nunez and Slusher appeared in Magistrate’s Court where they both met bail in the amount of one thousand, five hundred dollars each.
