City Council improves relations with Cuba
In 1995, Belize established a sister relationship with the city of Havana, Cuba. Today that alliance has been further strengthened following a visit to Cuba by a delegation from the Belize City Council. The assembly headed by Mayor David Fonseca ratified the Sister Relationship Agreement that was signed between the two countries five years ago. It was agreed that in arts and culture, Cuba will provide its expertise in the design of carnival costumes by holding workshops, while Belize will be looking at the possibility of exchanges in music and dance. In education, Cuba will assist the council in annual workshops for youths. Meanwhile, in sports, several programmes are being examined, such as activities involving volleyball, athletics, basketball, football and gymnastics. The Cuban City Council also promised to assist CITCO in improving public health services in Belize City. The Belizean delegation returned home on Thursday, August twenty-fourth. On his return, Mayor Fonseca said he is satisfied with the positive response of the Cuban officials to help them improve Belize City.
