A Digital Summer with the Belize Camping Experience
The Belize Camping Experience is turning to the digital platform to keep the anticipated camping experience going. Over a thousand Belize City kids usually participate in summer activities organized by the B.C.E., but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has not been able to hold camps. Director Alexander Perez and his team were forced to think outside the box and embrace technology as a means to engage the youth of Belize. On July first, B.C.E. will release its locally created programme for persons who work with children.
Leah Perez, Children’s Program Director, B.C.E.
“There is manual that we created and it goes step by step, what to ask the kids, what do with them, suggested games for different sizes of groups, different age groups. We also created videos so if you don’t have volunteers to do these skits. You can watch the videos with these kids and you can interact with them. So we used past volunteers of B.C.E. as well as friends of the ministry and we took videos. We made videos of different locations in Belize City.”
Nadeesha Robinson, B.C.E.
“Being part of that development I say we get up go different places have some of our past volunteers come and they act with us and dance and sing and all kind of sort. We had our media guy compel all of that into a fun engaging way so it would look fun for the kids.”
Alexander Perez, Director, B.C.E.
“Taking this new concern that is where we look into the curriculum and we adapt it where there are certain things that a person can do. So if you are a single mom or a teacher or even a past volunteer we created the curriculum that you can use with things at your home. You don’t need to go at the store to buy things so you can be very creative so you can focus on that relationship with the kids.”
The digital form of the program is free of cost and can be received if you send an email to belizecampingexperience@gmail.com
