Police knocks down 12 year old
Almost one week after a police corporal knocked down a twelve-year old boy in Belmopan, police have finally issued a report surrounding the incident. According to the press release, on August seventeenth, the officer, whose name has not been released because he has not been formally charged, was driving the department’s green Ford Explorer on Hummingbird Avenue when the accident occurred. The corporal reported that he saw the young boy, Jason Tillett, riding a mountain climber bicycle across the street from right to left. As the child reached the middle of the street, he made a U-turn returning to the right side of the street. Police say although the officer applied brakes, he still ended up hitting the young boy. The officer, who is attached to the Belmopan Criminal Investigation Branch, has since been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution and the matter is under investigation.
