Man shot by tourism police

Police Internal Affairs is also investigating another shooting incident that took place over the weekend in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye involving a tourism police officer. According to a police press release, around 2:45 Sunday morning, eighteen-year old Lewis Ciego of Dangriga and three of his friends were walking down Coconut Drive after leaving a nightclub. It is alleged that the men upon reaching the home of the officer, stopped and started to verbally abuse him. The incident went a step further, when Ciego using a knife, physically attacked the policeman. The officer, trying to defend himself, pulled out his service revolver and shot Ciego in his thigh.
