Cable operators, CBU come to terms on Olympics

After several false starts the dispute between cable television operators and the Caribbean Broadcasting Union over the Olympic Games has finally been resolved. Late this afternoon CBU President Stewart Krohn and Cable Association President Jimmy Johnson signed an agreement, which for an undisclosed fee, will allow Cable Association members to broadcast the games from Sydney. Johnson said that his association was anxious to work within the legal framework of the country and hoped that all parties concerned can continue to work on the basis of harmony, consensus and common sense. Krohn praised the decision of thecable operators to work with the CBU and expressed confidence that the widespread Olympic coverage will be enjoyed by the viewing public. On Monday, Attorney General Godfrey Smith will sign the copyright bill into law in a ceremony at the House of Culture.
