Will mayor be kicked out of U.D.P.? Ethics committee set up
Meanwhile in the governing party, Mayor Zenaida Flowers returned from a conference in England on Saturday on the same day her party’s National Party Council was meeting to establish the Ethics and Integrity Committee which will determine whether or not the Mayor stays in the party. The Mayor has been charged with the criminal offences of uttering false documents and violations to the City Council Regulations. And after an unconventional outburst, the party’s national executive recommended her expulsion. The Chairman of the U.D.P., Doug Singh, says two members of the ethics committee were named on Saturday to be followed by a third.

“The Constitution provides for the appointment of two of the three members of the three-member Committee and those two members appoint the third and that is essentially what we’ve done. The two individuals that were put in place were Marilyn Williams and John Pollard.”

“Does this have anything to do with the party’s objection to the Belize City Mayor’s recent comments? And the penalties that she faces by the party?”

“This certainly doesn’t exclude that but it’s a committee that needs to be in place to deal with any form of disciplinary measures for any member of the party. So it’s not exclusive to any activities by the mayor or anyone else, it really is a necessity.”
Chairing the Committee is Williams, of the Financial Intelligence Unit. If the Mayor is expelled, she will be given time to respond. The committee will review and then make the final decision.
