Security Guard Shot During Robbery Attempt in PG
Thirty-one-year-old Anselmo Ack was injured during a shooting incident in Punta Gorda on Tuesday night. The security guard was along with forty-nine-year-old Olympia Pate, the manager of the local Uno gas station, when they were fired upon by persons who attempted to rob them of the day’s proceeds in sales. Pate reported to PG police that shortly before eight o’clock she left the service station in her vehicle and upon turning at the corners of Front and Prince streets, she observed a motorcycle parked in the middle of the street. While one person remained near the motorbike, another individual approached the passenger side of the vehicle with a firearm and demanded money. Upon observing what was taking place, Pate stepped on the gas and sped off. The gunman fired multiple shots in their direction, hitting Ack as a result. He remains in stable condition at the Southern Regional Hospital while police investigate the matter.
