Belize CitCo Will Not Pay Chon Saan Bill Incurred by Previous Council
The Belize City Council is not going to pay the eighteen thousand dollars that Lee Mark Chang, owner of Chon Saan Palace is attempting to collect. Chang who is the U.D.P.’s Standard Bearer for Caribbean Shores and political ally of Patrick Faber, says that between September 2016 and October 2017, the Belize City Council racked up a food bill of eighteen thousand six hundred and seventy-nine dollars. This was under the administration of former Mayor Darrell Bradley who is Faber’s political opponent in the U.D.P.’s leadership race. According to Chang, Chon Saan Palace and the Belize City Council had a long-standing agreement for the trading off of property tax with food. So between 2016 and 2017, the then U.D.P. Belize Council consumed food and drinks f over eighteen thousand dollars which Chang says should have canceled his property tax. The bill was never paid and now Chang has come knocking on the new council’s door with a bill in hand. The P.U.P. Belize City Council, however, says that there is no agreement signed. Attorney for the council is William Lindo Junior.

“The council’s position is that they do not believe at this stage having seen the documents having sent by Mister Chang’s attorney Mister Arguelles they don’t believe that they debt if you want to call it that was properly incurred. From what we have seen it seems that it operated as though anyone from the council could have gone to Chon Saan Palace and ordered whatever it is, food or whatever and sign for it. Normally in a business world if you go to any store you would normally end a purchase order saying that, let’s say Belize City Council I am sending a purchase order and I want to order x amount of whatever it is. You would know then that the council is authorizing you to provide that good or service. We don’t have that. All we have are invoices issued from Chon Saan Palace saying that John Doe Jane Doe came and they signed for food. And now Chon Saan Palace is saying that Belize City Council throughout the period September 2016 to October 2017 incurred some eighteen thousand dollars on credit.”
