P.G. burglar caught leaving bank
The nation’s violent crime wave may be centred in Belize City, but now and then the districts get to make the news as well. Today the police spotlight shone on Punta Gorda, as shortly after midnight a mobile patrol spotted a solitary figure inside the local branch of the Belize Bank. When the man spotted the police, he fled out the bank’s back door, but was stopped soon after officers fired a shot from their thirty-eight revolver. The twenty-two year old Honduran originally gave his name as Juan Carlos Medina, but his real name is believed to be Johnny Mauricio Palma. He is expected to be charged Friday with burglary. The extent of his injuries, if any, is not clear, but Palma is currently in the detention cell at the P.G. police station.
