B.P.D. Has Been Working to Keep Youth Away from Gang Activity

Chester Williams

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams also says that the state of emergency can very well be extended past the month, but that will be determined prior to its expiration. He does say, however, that there are a number of initiatives that have been put in place to steer these men away from the criminal justice system and the gang lifestyle.

“There are some of them that we have seen them taken that curve. We still continue to work along with them through CYDP, through Brother Nuri who is doing interventions and mediation, through Francisco Woods. I spoke to Mister Woods yesterday who says that Miss Deborah Seawell has secured funding that is going to provide some employment for them in looking at carwash, block-making machine or factory; different things that they can be employed.  We have some of them that we have sought employment for at Stakebank Project. So we are trying but at the end of the day we can only do so much. So it is not of the lack of trying on my part or on the part of many other people; we have tried with them. But what must we do with those who do not want to try and just want to live that life out there to make easy money and terrorize people?”
