Policeman charged in San Pedro burglary
A policeman has been charged with handling stolen goods. CIB Detective David Carrillo, while stationed in San Pedro, was directed to investigate a July twenty-eighth burglary at a house belonging to an American, Gary Cooper. Police believe that Carrillo had another interest in the case, however, namely that he helped plan the break-in in the first place. He and the man who actually burgled the house, Hilberto Majaro, wound up with twelve thousand dollars in cash and jewelry. Police have since recovered the goods, buried five and a half miles north of San Pedro Town. Carrillo pleaded not guilty to the charges in Belize City Magistrate’s Court and met the bail of three thousand dollars. Majaro pleaded guilty and will serve three years in prison. Carrillo is slated to return to court at the end of the month. The police department has not confirmed the details of this incident.
