ComPol on Corporal Eldon Arzu’s Supreme Court case
On Thursday, we told you about the Corporal Eldon Arzu versus the Commissioner of Police case that’s before the Supreme Court. Arzu’s claim is that the Commissioner of Police didn’t comply with the rules of the Police Association election process. His position is that the ComPol extended the nomination process after the deadline set by the Police Association’s election rules for elections of the new president of Police Association. Well, Arzu was granted the judicial review in his claim against Police Commissioner Chester Williams. Today Commissioner Williams shared his thoughts on the court’s decision.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“That was expected that the court would have seen there is a need for the court to determine whether or not the commissioner had the authority to extend the nominations and to extend the date of election. From our stand point, we have good reason to have done so. And it is for the court to determine when the substantive matter is heard whether or not the reasons we have would be justified.”

“You do welcome the fact that the court did not accept what they were asking for – an endorsement immediately of his slate?”
Chester Williams
“Exactly and then the fact the court had turned down or denied the injunction it speaks volumes to our case. So, we are going to wait and see what the outcome is going to be come September of this year.”
