PC Nadir Mendoza Kicked Out of the Police Department
In December 2019, Police Constable Nadir Mendoza went on the lam and became a fugitive from the law after being accused of stealing a firearm from the Belize Police Department. Several months later that weapon was located inside the Corozal Free Zone and a subsequent investigation led to criminal charges being brought against the officer. The twenty-two-year-old police constable was later taken to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court and arraigned for theft and released on bail. Tonight, Mendoza is back to being a civilian following a recommendation from an internal tribunal to dismiss him from the department.
Supt. Dwayne Sutherland, O.C., Professional Standards Branch
“On February sixth, 2020, there was a police nine millimeter pistol that was found in the Corozal Free Zone area and an investigation did occur where a police officer was charged criminally. Further internal investigation resulted in disciplinary charges being laid against Nadir Mendoza, police constable, for making away with firearm and ammunition, carrying and keeping firearm and ammunition and act to the prejudice of good order and discipline. On Thursday, July 16th, 2020, the tribunal ended where Nadir Mendoza was found guilty of all three charges and as a result, the adjudicator recommended his dismissal on all three charges.”
