Shooting Survivors Need the Public’s Help!
Police continue to investigate a wild shooting that happened on Joseph Andrews Drive in San Ignacio on Sunday morning. The shooter was targeting football player, Windell Trapp, but he also killed a taxi driver and injured three other innocent persons. As we’ve shared, Trapp and Samuel Hill were killed on the spot. And although Danny Jimenez, Telesha McKay and Marquez Robateau survived, their lives have been shattered by the bullets. They have a long road to recovery and need the public’s help to do so. Here’s the story.
Andrea Polanco, Reporting
Thirty-two-year-old Danny Jimenez is a police officer attached to the Special Patrol Unit in San Ignacio. He wasn’t on duty when he attempted to stop a man with a gun outside of CK Sports Bar in that town early Sunday morning. He was shot in his mouth and suffered significant damage – where he lost teeth and has a shattered jaw. Jimenez now needs reconstructive surgery to repair the damage that the gun shot caused.
On the Phone: Deyanie Hyde, Sister-in-law of Danny Jimenez
“The gunshot wound that was intended for his face – he had a mini struggle with the guy and he pretty much slapped away the gun because if he didn’t do that it would have hit him directly to his brain or another organ. He knocked the gun away so half of his jaw is gone and no teeth or any of that. So, he has to do reconstruction for his jaw and then later do a plastic surgery if he doesn’t want to stay with any scars and then put in teeth. So, the reconstruction of the jaw is just for the jaw. It doesn’t include the teeth.”
Jimenez now needs thousands of dollars for the surgery and other procedures for him to recover from this shooting. His family has set up a GoFundMe account online where you can make donations.
“If the community can assist us, today dah fi me, tomorrow dah fi you. He serves his country. He represents his country because he also plays football for the Belmopan Bandits. So, even if it is the fans and they have two dollars – two dollars from a hundred people can add up to something. We have the GoFundMe online. I know that some Belizeans might not have credit cards but that same GoFundMe link, when you open it up it has local bank account where you can deposit to assist Danny.”
But Jimenez is only one of three persons who survived the deadly shooting. The other survivor is twenty-nine-year-old Telesha McKay – who is recovering from a shot in the shoulder. The third person who was is nineteen-year-old coast guard member Marques Robateau. His family is hoping for some financial help, as he has a long road to recovery.
Voice of: Frances Robateau, Mother of Marques Robateau
“This morning about two three o’clock they took out the bullet because he was bleeding inside. He is on his way to recovery right now. We are just praying and hoping for the best for him because the bullet that he received lodged beside his heart and he got a bullet in his right hand shoulder and his left foot left foot.”

“Is he in a serious condition? How he is doing – stable?”
Voice of: Frances Robateau
“I spoke to him, but he can’t talk because he has tubes and machine on him. So, I don’t know how long he will be in here.”
The two persons killed are Twenty-nine-year-old football player Windell Trapp and twenty-two-year-old Taxi operator Samuel Hill were shot to death on the spot. Trapp’s family acknowledged that he was the target of the shooting. On Monday his aunt shared in an interview that she believed he was set up but today she says they have learned that was not the case. His killer was following his movements – and he didn’t have help from anyone at the bar. Reporting for News Five, I’m Andrea Polanco.
