Who will be Miss Cultural Heritage?
It’s getting very close to that time of year when for apparently no special reason, hundreds, if not thousands of normally staid Belizeans dress up in skimpy costumes and dance their way over several miles of uneven pavement under the mercilessly scorching sun. It’s called carnival and tonight News Five’s Faralee Gabourel previews an event organised by one of the leading carnival bands.
Faralee Gabourel, Reporting
It’s another Cultural Heritage Sinting…it’s not carnival day yet, but who says carnival bands have nothing fun to do. To promote their efforts the Cultural Heritage Carnival Band is hosting the fourth annual Miss Cultural Heritage and these are the contestants.
Tricia Young, Contestant
“My name is Tricia Young and I am representing Krem, the Mandingo Station 2000 and beyond.”
Jennifer Castillo, Contestant
“Good evening everyone, my name is Jennifer Castillo and I am proudly representing Mikado store.”
Shakira Proverbs, Contestant
“Bacchanal to one and all. I am Shakira Proverbs proudly representing Nemwil, for fire, floods or hurricane.”
Jerrilee Perez, Contestant
“A warm welcome to one and all. I am eighteen year old Jerrilee Perez and I am proudly representing Travelers Limited, the only stop you ever need to make.”
That was the way it looked as the girls strutted down the catwalk, but believe me, to win this pageant you have to do more than just strut. The bulk of the pageant’s points are allotted according to how the contestants move to the music. And to dance, dance, dance, you need to have confidence.
Faralee Gabourel
“You have a feel of the other contestant because you all have practiced for several days now. How confident do you feel going on to the City Centre stage on Friday night?”
Shanien Neal, Contestant
Well I believe that everybody has a good chance, but I really feel strong about it that I do stand a good chance in this competition.”
Tiffara Reynolds, Contestant
“Well I am very confident that I will do my best as well as the other contestants. So basically I am stage comfortable and so far I have seen that the other contestant are stage comfortable. So I am confident that all of us will be out there doing our best.”
Lets just hope that on Friday night these young ladies put on a great show, If they don’t, then hey, don’t blame me, blame the ones inviting you.
All Contestants
“Come join us at the Miss Cultural Heritage Pageant 2000”
