Leopold Japon Knocked Down and Killed in Pomona
A sixty-nine-year-old cyclist lost his life in Pomona Village on Saturday afternoon as he rode a bicycle on the Hummingbird Highway. Leopold Japon, a resident of Pomona, was struck by a vehicle driven by Steven Williams who reported to police that he attempted to swerve away from the cyclist to avoid hitting him. Japon was knocked down and received grave injuries. Despite being rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“On Saturday, sometime around 2:30 p.m., police were called to an area in Pomona Village whereupon arrival they met one Steven Williams who was the driver of a white delivery truck that was northbound. Williams reported to police that whilst he was traveling within Pomona Village he saw a male person on a bicycle traveling in the same direction and upon approaching near the person, that person then rode across the highway and in an effort to avoid hitting the person he applied breaks and swerved towards his left, however, the person was still hit by the vehicle. This person’s name was learned to be one Leopold Japon, sixty-nine-years-old of Pomona Village, who was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police are conducting an investigation into this matter and Steven Williams is detained pending this investigation.”
