U.S. national scammed out of over $100,000 in land deal
Another crime on the increase is Obtaining Property by Deception. The most recent case involves a forty-eight year old U.S. national, Stan Pore who has been jacked of over a hundred thousand dollars. Pore reported to police that he has been arranging to purchase four parcels of land in Carmelita Village, Orange Walk since February of 2008. He says he had been working with a man he knows as Oscar Romero who claimed to be the managing director and a broker at Belize Land Properties. A written contract was signed for the purchase and Pore handed over a total of one hundred and thirty-seven thousand dollars towards the cost of the properties but later found out that Romero never purchased the land. Police are now looking for a suspect.
