Grenade Launcher Found in Corozal
In the north, a forty-millimetre grenade launcher was discovered in Corozal. On Saturday afternoon, officers searched an overgrown property in the Dominguez Layout area and discovered the suspected military issued firearm, whose origin cannot be determined at this time. While no one was in the area, ACP Joseph Myvett says that the weapon was found beside the house of a person known to be involved in criminal activity.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Sometime around 2:30 p.m., based on information, Corozal Police visited the Dominguez Layout area, where upon arrival in an overgrown lot, police discovered a white bag in some bushes. The bag was retrieved and when opened contained a forty-millimetre grenade launcher which was then retrieved and taken to the Corozal Police Station for examination. At this point in time, we know that the weapon was found beside a house that is owned by a person that is known to be involved in crime in that area. And so there is an ongoing investigation in relation to the discovery. At this point in time, we cannot say whether or not it was military issued. That is what we are looking into at this time.”

“But these kinds of weapons aren’t something that normal or civilians would use?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“No it won’t. Of course not.”
