BATSUB operations continues in Belize
You may have heard reports of a winding down of the presence of British troops in Belize in light of the global recession and with Britain making cuts in its overseas deployment in countries such as Iraq. Well, there is reassurance tonight that the training support unit of the British Army, BATSUB, will not be affected. In a question posed in the British Parliament recently, the issue was raised by Lord Michael Ashcroft. And the response from the Minister for International Defence and Security, Baroness Ann Taylor was (quote): There are no plans to close the British Army Training Support Unit Belize. While the type and level of training at BATSUB has changed in recent months, a review of light force battle group overseas training found that there was a continued requirement to train there. (unquote).The BATSUB Unit was established in Belize since 1994 and has been providing valuable support to the BDF and the economy.
