Orphan’s health worsens, parents still missing

Story Picture
In late May we brought viewers’ attention to the case of a little boy named Andrew who had been found on the street with nothing but a few pesos in his pocket. His parents and even his nationality were unknown. And not only was he an orphan, but he was diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome and was unable to communicate. Since we first broadcast that story, authorities are no closer to establishing the boy’s identity. The only change in the situation has been Andrew’s deteriorating health.

“Well I have no idea, no idea whatsoever.”

No idea why the parents of Andrew Ramclam haven’t come forward to reclaim their child. Six moths ago, Andrew was found wandering near the Belcan Bridge and has since been living at Belize City’s Child Care Centre. Although his story has been publicized several times, none of Andrew’s relatives have turned up. But now there is even more reason why his parents should show themselves.

Sandra Carr

“Since the last three weeks we notice that Andrew has been having seizures and why, we don’t know; the seizures have been occurring quite frequently. In one day he had three, the next day he had two. Yesterday it got quite bad that we had to take him to the hospital.”

Since he was released from the hospital, Andrew who is said to be a jovial child has bounced back to his old self again, quietly enjoying life’s little treasures.

Faralee Gabourel

“Now Andrew needs the help of his parents more than ever, as he continues to have daily seizures, which may eventually prove life-threatening and require special medical treatment, outside of Belize. Reporting for News Five, I am Faralee Gabourel.”

Although Andrew does have Down’s Syndrome, doctors have confirmed that this condition is not triggering the seizures. This leads his guardians at the Child Care Centre to believe that there is something else wrong with him, something of a more serious nature. If you have any idea of where to find Andrew’s parents or relatives, please call the Child Care Centre at 02-35225.
