Inmate who witnessed murder escapes
He was one of the prisoners apparently victimized on July fourth when three inmates entered cell number forty-one at Hattieville Prison. Glenford Gillett was killed in that attack, while cellmate John Bartley received a large cut wound to his forehead. Bartley was treated at the KHMH and sent back to Hattieville, but is in the news once again, this time because he has escaped. Prison officials have confirmed that Bartley busted out of the minimum-security boot camp where he has been serving time for burglary. According to prison officials, Bartley made good his escape sometime Monday night during the nationwide blackout. The prisoner apparently pried open the cell’s ricket and escaped through the back of the building. But while Bartley was gone he apparently was also homesick. Prison authorities received a phone call from the wanted man asking to negotiate his return to jail. The Department of Corrections would not tell News Five exactly what was discussed but said they told Bartley that they are not going to discuss any terms and if he wants to give himself up, he can either go to the police or come to Hattieville. Since that phone call, prison officials and police have not seen or heard from John Bartley. According to the Department of Corrections, Bartley could be dangerous and they are advising the general public that if they know of the inmate’s whereabouts they should call the nearest police station. The last time Bartley was seen he was wearing a bandage over the wound he received to the head. Meanwhile, no charges have yet been filed in the July fourth murder and assault.
