Elderly Woman Critical After She is Cut to the Throat

A fifty-nine-year-old woman from Lindos Alley in Belize City is currently in a critical condition at a medical facility in Belize City after she was attacked at her home earlier this morning. Rosa Delia Chinchilla was at her home when a twenty-five-year-old man visited her residence and asked to borrow some money. Police say that when Chinchilla refused, the man attacked her and inflicted a large cut wound to her neck. Police have managed to detain the man who reportedly lives on George Street. Here is News Five’s Duane Moody with a report.

“Just a police investigation in respect to a lady who allegedly was found with some injuries around her neck.”

“Sir we understand that an elderly woman’s neck was cut. Is this true?”

“I am not so sure. Like how I say, we just know that police responded with ambulance and somebody was ferried to the hospital.”

“What is the preliminary information that you guys have so far?”

“We noh have no information right now. We just finish with the scene and we are making our way to the hospital.”

…that person, an elderly woman, is fighting for her life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after she was received a large cut wound to the throat just before midday today whilst inside her house on  Lindo’s Alley in Belize City. Fifty-nine-year-old Rosa Chinchilla was allegedly accosted by a twenty-five-year-old man who entered her home and asked to borrow money. Chinchilla refused and that’s when she was attacked and her throat slit. Her cries for help were heard by a neighbour.

“My son holler and told me mommy, I hear screaming over there; somebody screaming. So ih say come yah mommy and so I come out. When I look over there, I see the neighbour di go upstairs. And the other lady that live upstairs called me across and I went across and saw the lady that I know that lived over there for five years was washing in blood.”

“It must have been a frightening experience when you reached over there.”

“Yes, it was. It was because I couldn’t even look at it. It was.”

The alleged attacker, a resident of George Street, has since been taken into police custody, pending further investigation as Chinchilla remains in a critical condition at the medical facility.  Her neighbours are left in shock by the incident.

“She is a very nice lady. I don’t talk to her much because I think she only speaks Spanish, but we hail each other. But she is a very nice lady and I don’t see her having problem with anybody around here.”
