No F.F.B. Congress on Saturday
There will be no congress of the Football Federation of Belize on Saturday as was initially scheduled. As we reported on Thursday, concerns were raised by candidates who are contesting the leadership of the F.F.B. that existing regulations prohibit the gathering of more than ten persons. In this case, the congress which would see the election of a new executive would include the participation of almost fifty members. Today, the prime minister said that the congress is a no-go.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“I had the, I don’t know what official title he holds, but Sergio Chuc reached out to me and I spoke to the attorney general who was quite clear. Sergio told me that the arrangements they were making could be safely accommodated under the SI and the restrictions. I explained to him that really that was a matter for the attorney general who drafts the regulations and who is my and government’s legal advisor. He called the attorney general who in turn called me and the attorney general made it absolutely clear that this cannot and will not be allowed to happen.”
