British scholarships for Belizean students
On Monday, Belize’s favorite billionaire announced that starting September 2001, Belizean students would be sent on scholarships to study business in England at–get this–the Michael Ashcroft International Business School. That’s right, Ashcroft is putting together his own school at the Anglia Polytechnic University in Essex, Great Britain. The nine Belizean students will be chosen from high schools as well as the University of Belize and will receive tuition money as well as living and traveling expenses. Brochures with more details on this scholarship program will be handed out to various schools in September. Sir Ashcroft says he hopes that the graduates will return to Belize with the potential to make significant differences to the country’s development. In other scholarship news, the British High Commission is now accepting applications to study at Cambridge University in the UK. These scholarships are being offered to undergraduates and include the University’s composition fee, college fees, living expenses and a contribution towards traveling expenses. Interested students must complete the application form by September 21st. Forms are available at the British High in Belmopan.
