Two shot, two more charged after shootout
Police have arrested and charged two men after a shootout in Cinderella Plaza early Saturday morning. Police say around 3am on Saturday, gunshots were fired from a Mercury Sedan parked on the corner of Douglas Jones Street and Freetown Road. Witnesses report that the car then turned left into Freetown Road and more shots were fired. Two pedestrians, 25-year old Howard Meyers and 22-year old Jason Matute were shot: Meyers in his thigh and Matute in his arm. Police chased the sedan and eventually managed to stop it. As a result, 20-year old Karim Harris has been charged with wounding and aggravated assault while 21-year old Marlon Blades has been charged with aiding and abetting. It is uncertain at this time what was the motive behind the shooting and whether the men shot were the intended targets. Both Meyers and Matute were taken to the KHMH where they were treated for their wounds and later released.
