Man charged for having sex with child

It is uncertain whether the increased number of rape and abuse cases of Belize’s children is the result of increased awareness, bringing to light society’s secrets or the simple frightening fact that more pedophiles are lurking among us. Tonight, we report the abuse of another girl and the subsequent arrest of a Belize City man. 35-year old Carlos Mejia, a Honduran national of Iguana Street, has been charged with unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent assault. Reports are that Mejia was in his house as his children and their friends were playing in the yard. It is alleged Mejia called a 10-year old girl into the house and then had sex with her. Neighbors saw the child go into house and alerted the girl’s mother. Hospital officials later confirmed that the child had been carnally known.
