CEMO Prep for the Hurricane Season was Ongoing

The National Met Service says that Nana will bring anywhere between three to six inches of rainfall. The heavy rains and storm surges are expected to cause some flooding. And as you know, it doesn’t take much for the city to flood – and that is what CEMO says they have been working on to reduce the flooding and other hazards that can be created by trees and other items lying around. Councilor Michael Noralez notes that if there is a need for evacuation buses will be mobilized according to electoral divisions.

“This morning some people have called that they have pruned some trees; they have been cutting some of these trees because they are expecting high winds. So, we have advised them to call the PR or sanitation department to make sure that those limbs and so are gone. We have been clearing all outlets to make sure that the water recedes as quickly as possible. We have been doing that on a daily basis for the last month or so. When it comes to evacuations, we will move our buses to the specific locations – so here in Belize City we will do it by the electoral divisions. So, we will have a Port Loyola bus; Lake I bus – but the information will be forwarded to the people as quickly as possible.”
