Festival of Arts teachers and students honoured

After the success of this year’s Belize District Festival of Arts, the Belize Arts Council has decided to honour a few of the stage stars as well as the ones who worked behind the scenes. Outstanding directors of drama were Joy Ross and Diane Garcia. Marion Clare was the most outstanding dance teacher and Laverne Andrewin is the most outstanding vocal teacher. Students recognized for their performance in art, drama, music or dance were Indira Thompson from Queen Square, Delhart McFadzen from SJC, Christa Yeager of Vista Dance School and Bernard Bradley of St. Ignatius Lower. May Pen Seventh Day Adventist school received a special award for their contributions in arts and craft. The Belize Arts Council also announced today that Andy Palacio and the Punta Rebels of Dangriga will be featured as two of the Caribbean’s Super Artists at this year’s CARIFESTA. Palacio and the Punta Rebels will join big names like Bunny Wailer, Beenie Man and the Mighty Sparrow. CARIFESTA will be held in the Republic of St. Kitts and Nevis from August 17th to the 26th.
