Louisiana Gov’t School celebrates students

Story Picture
Right now the parents, teachers and students of the Louisiana Government School are walking on air. The year’s not even close to over yet, but so far they’ve been up cleaning up awards left, right and center in everything from spelling bees to science fairs to the PSE. The names, Vanessa Urbina, Manuel Garcia and Vic Chu should sound familiar to you. All three students, who are from Louisiana Government School in Orange Walk Town, all made the news after their accomplishments in the NDACC’s National Drug Quiz and the Primary School Examination. On Friday, the school organized a parade through the town to celebrate the school and students’ achievements, so far.

Guadalupe Quetzal, Principal, Louisiana Gov’t School

“Our achievements has not only been in the PSE, the spelling and the national drug contest. But even in the science fair, when we entered the national science fair at the zoo, we came in 3rd. In the basketball national finals we came in 3rd also, so it has been overall, it has not only been academics or the PSE, but even in the sporting area that the school has great potential.”

Quetzal says she attributes the students’ success not only to their hard work, but to the support given by the parents and the community to the school.
