Guatemalan believed drowned in Mopan River

Cayo police are still investigating a missing persons report even though it’s not entirely certain if that’s the man they’re supposed to be looking for. Around 8:00 on Sunday morning, 3 men, believed to be Guatemalans, were crossing the Mopan River behind Xunantunich on horseback and towing a cow in the direction of the Guatemalan side. One of the men fell off his horse and into the strong current. He did not resurface. It just so happened that police were on patrol in the area at the same time and tried to reach the man but to no avail. His friends quickly fled the scene. Later that same day, a woman reported that she believed the man was her husband, Anner de Jesus Barahona, a Guatemalan from Melchor de Mencos. Up until news time tonight, the missing man’s body had still not been found.
