Police Investigate Assault of a Woman near Pound Yard Bridge

Domestic abuse is well-known to occur rampantly, though not often these cases are captured on video.  But over the weekend, a disturbing video surfaced on social media of a woman being beaten by a man. The brutality occurred near the Pound Yard Bridge in Belize City as passersby watched but did nothing to assist the victim. The video has reached the desk of the Commissioner of Police who has since instructed his officers to investigate the matter and deal with those concerned. Today, Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero told the media that a formal report has not been lodged with the authorities, but the investigation is underway.

“Yes, I saw the video and that matter will be investigated and charges levelled where necessary.”

“Sir in that case, would the woman need to come forward and give a report for there to be charges?”
