Tires Set Ablaze in Protest of Equal Opportunities Bill

Ahead of cabinet meeting today, as the sun began to rise, tires were set on fire on two major highways. The vehicle tires were set ablaze near mile thirty-eight on the George Price Highway. Police and firefighters were called to the scene where the fire was doused and the highway cleared for traffic. The same occurred on the Philip Goldson Highway. It is believed that this was an act of protest against the Equal Opportunities Bill which was expected to be introduced in the House of Representatives on Wednesday. The leader of today’s protest Louis Wade was asked if the burning of tires were part of his movement.

“There are allegations surfacing that the two tire burnings over this morning had something to do with the national protest of the E.O.B.  Can you either confirm or deny those allegations?”

Louis Wade, #IWantMyCountryBack

“Well, whatever it is that we do it is going to be hash tagged with our #KillTheBill. So essentially I don’t know how far the Kill the Bill hashtag has gone. I hope it went countrywide and I hope that people we know and people we don’t know and people use the hashtag and Belizeans wake up and light a fire through the whole country. It is about time that politicians realize that the country belongs to people.”
