The John Smith Link Road is Officially Opened
A mega million-dollar road project was opened today; it is the stretch of road that links the airport access road near Gentrac to the George Price Highway. Known as the Airport Link Road and now officially the John Smith Road, it is five miles long and worth thirty-three million dollars. At the opening today, Minister Patrick Faber explained the significance of the name of the road. John Smith is the first leader of the People’s United Party who split from the party and then migrated to the U.S.
The project also includes a high-level bridge crossing the Belize River near to the existing airport access road, embankments, pavements, and two lanes with shoulders. According to the Ministry of Works, it also boasts a three-leg roundabout at the intersection with the airport access road and a four-leg roundabout at the intersection with the George Price Highway. Work was undertaken by CISCO Construction Limited. Funding was through a loan from the OPEC Fund for International Development with financial support from the Government of Taiwan.
